I know, I know, the millennial in me strikes again. When I heard this bit of news today I got really excited, then I took a moment and realized I was a grown ass man. News dropped today that the Michael Bay produced ‘Power Rangers’ movie just cast it’s lead villain, which if you’re familiar with ‘The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ then you know that villain is the uber bitchy Rita Repulsa. Now as a child I found Rita to be mischievous but I have to admit as an adult I find that chick incredibly annoying, maybe it was the over the top english dubbing or maybe it was the culture barrier. The villains and fight scenes were all taken from a Japanese kids show so when America got is grubby hands on it, producers had to find away to mix Amercian actors and storylines with the original Japanese show. Rita’s original name was Witch Bandora. Luckily the Americans did good this time when casting Rita for the American reboot. Elizabeth Banks has been cast as Rita Repulsa and I must say that selection was absolutely perfect. Banks can make that character exactly what I thought she was as a kid, a mischievous witch. If you wan to know more about Rita heres a fun little description courtesy of RangerWiki:

Rita Repulsa was a female humanoid sorceress bent on intergalactic domination. Having conquered many worlds in the service of Lord Zedd, Rita was defeated by Zordon of Eltar during her failed invasion of Earth. Imprisoned in a space dumpster by the sage, Rita was cast into space where she would float for ten thousand years before arcing back to the moon. Once freed, she and her minions reclaimed their headquarters and started a second campaign on Earth to defeat Zordon and take the planet for Lord Zedd.
