‘Independence Day 2: Resurgence’ Trailer Is Here And It’s So Emmerich

startreksocials

For the love of God, they really did it. Fox has been working with disaster film director Roland Emmerich for the past few years to reboot/rejuvenate Independence Day. They decided on a sequel which would take place 20 years after the events of the first film. Fast forward to now and we have the first trailer for ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ which is everything they had dreamt up. Heres the synopsis for the film:

“Using recovered extraterrestrial technology, the nations of Earth collaborate on an immense defense program to protect the planet. When the aliens attack with unprecedented force, only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can save the world.”

Basically this time around the aliens are back 20 years later for revenge (talk about holding a grudge) against earth and it’s humans, who are now armed with super advanced alien technology. The fact humans are now fighting fire with fire makes for some pretty fun extravagant set pieces. I’m sure Emmerich released all his built up frustration with this film, seeing how his passion project ‘Stonewall’ was critically panned and was branded as a joke. As far as original cast members this film is chock full of old faces including: Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, and Bill Pullman. One face that’s visibly missing is that of Big Willy himself, Will Smith is M.I.A. and for good reason. Apparently Will’s character Col. Hiller is dead as fuck, according to one of the films websites back on April 27, 2007 something significant happened in the fictional world of ID4:

While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of ‘96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.

Ah well, who needs Will Smith when you have…Liam Hemsworth. Yeah on second thought I’m not sold.
