NBC Set To Make ‘Cruel Intentions’ TV Series…Sorry CW!
Surprisingly, this story surprised me and not pleasantly. It turns out this little fad with turning old, sometimes forgotten movies into modern day television shows, may be around a lot longer than any of us would like it to be. The good folks over at NBC have decided to order a pilot script for a follow-up series based 1999’s Cruel Intentions starring Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon. The cult classic (and I feel like I should use that term loosely) is based on the actual 1988 classic Dangerous Liaisons starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, and a young Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman. If it sounds like I’m trying to sell you on that film thats because I totally am, it’s a great movie, fairly better than “Cruel Intentions” which I admit I found entertaining on a few levels. So what are they possibly planning for the TV series? And why isn’t it on the fucking CW? Well, if the description is any indication it sounds like NBC is trying to get it’s CW on. Here’s a some details on the series plot from Deadline:
The series would reportedly be set in San Francisco, where Bash Casey — the son of Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon) — moves from Kansas to claim his previously unknown legacy after discovering Sebastian’s journals.
Ok, Ok, Ok, there is a lot wrong with that synopsis. If you’ve ever seen the film you know something happens at the end that makes this whole thing a bit of a stretch. Now with that said, I do see how the plot could work, I mean, people can move, remarry, adopt, etc. I got all that, but we have journals and Kansas, lets try not to make this thing THAT fucking cliche NBC. From the sounds of it this is simply going to be ‘Gossip Girl’ with a dude. All I can say to you NBC is, I’ll pass.
