It’s been 15 years since the movie world became enthralled with a little movie called ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’. At the time we hadn’t seen a more beautiful martial arts film, which was courtesy of Oscar winning director Ang Lee. It also introduced us to ‘wire-fu’ (this film and ‘The Matrix’ solidified that whole trend) which we were plagued with in those horrible ass Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore ‘Charlie’s Angels’ movies. It was an artery, stylish, romantic, foreign film that just so happened to be a kung-fu movie. It was that factor that made it not only a mainstream hit and awards show darling but something that impacted pop culture in the 2000s. If by chance you were too young or in a coma back then heres a synopsis of the that film:

In 19th century Qing Dynasty China, a warrior (Chow Yun-Fat) gives his sword, Green Destiny, to his lover (Michelle Yeoh) to deliver to safe keeping, but it is stolen, and the chase is on to find it. The search leads to the House of Yu where the story takes on a whole different level.

That brings us to the present day. Since that films release we’ve seen scores of artsy martial arts movies. Hell, the now defunct art house studio Miramax could claim about 60% of those films alone. So, no one was even looking for a sequel to ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ but we were all both curious and surprised when the Lazarus of film and TV, Netflix, dropped a trailer for Ne(which you can see above). Here’s a brief synopsis:

A band of legendary warriors protects a 400-year-old sword known as “The Green Destiny.”

Yeah, not a lot to go on there. And the trailer isn’t much better, it’s convoluted, overbearing and disinteresting. It won’t be waiting up past 2 A.M. for this one, sorry Netflix.
