voltron_movie-1200x675

Netflix continues it’s role as televisions safe haven. The popular streaming company announced today that, along with Dreamworks animation, they would be bringing back an old favorite as well as something new from a familiar face. Netflix and Dreamworks will join forces to bring back ‘Voltron’ and Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters. Now Dreamworks and Netflix have had a pretty good working relationship for a while now, the two collaborate on Turbo the animated show as well as The Croods animated show. Now, they are kicking things up at notch with Trollhunters and Voltron. Now if you’re unfamiliar with the properties, Guillermo del Toro describes his animated series Trollhunters as a “fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.” Voltron on the other hand as a cult following heres the plot if you didn’t already know it:

A team of astronauts pilot a giant super Robot known as “Voltron.”

Simply enough right, everyone loves giant super robots (The Iron Giant anyone?). So I have no doubt Voltron will attract a whole new generation of viewers. Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Series for Netflix, is thrilled with the deal Netflix and Dreamworks have and she’s very enthusiastic about partnerships future, here’s what she said:

“DreamWorks Animation is synonymous with great storytelling that families around the world enjoy. It’s with great pleasure that we expand on an already successful relationship with DreamWorks Animation to bring more premium kids and family television to Netflix members globally.”

And Ann Daly, President of DreamWorks Animation, totally agrees, she went on to say:

“This agreement adds to the incredible foundation we’ve built together with Netflix over a number of years across both film and television. We are proud to work closely with Netflix to continue delivering high-quality programming to audiences around the world.”

Well these two companies seem very much in love with each other so the future seems very bright for this partnership.
