New Trailer For ‘Star Trek: Beyond’ Is Wildly Entertaining

startreksocials

Paramount surprised no one today with the first teaser trailer for ‘Star Trek: Beyond’. This trailer was suppose to premiere before ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ on Dec. 18th but apparently they got caught up in trailergeddon. The past couple of weeks it seems any and every studio with a big summer blockbuster have decided this period in time is ideal for releasing the trailers for them. The new trailer features a lot more action than the previous two J.J. Abrams Star Trek’s. The reason behind that might be the fact that ‘Fast and Furious’ director Justin Lin has taken over ever since Abrams jumped ship for ‘Star Wars’. I’m digging what seems to be plot, which from what I gather from this trailer, is basically them in a Matt Damon Martian type of situation. The crew’s beloved U.S.S. Enterprise is destroyed and they are stranded on a foreign planet. Little is known about this new film but thanks to CheatSheet, here are 3 things we do know.

  1. Zachary Quinto AKA Spock said in an interview with Variety last summer:

“I think the five-year mission will be a part of this next film in some way. We’re coming up on the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi series in entertainment history so it’s inherently an ongoing story. But I do think that we’ll feel some sense of evolution in these characters that’s been building through the first few films.”

2. Idris Elba is a villian in the film.

3. ‘Beyond’ will stays truer to the themes of the original T.V. series according to star and writer Simon Pegg.

“I think we just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show and it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation.”
