NUTSHELL NEWS: Woo Remaking ‘Killer’, Banks Directing PP3 and More

Funny thing about entertainment news, is sometimes you get more than you can handle and other days, well, you don’t. Even if you do there are times when the story isn’t big enough to warrant it’s on article but is interesting enough to tell you about. So I decided to try something new with Double Toasted’s Nutshell News, basically giving you the gist of the story.

• Elizabeth Banks Set To Direct ‘Pitch Perfect 3’

Coming off the success of directing her first feature film ‘Pitch Perfect 2’, Actress Elizabeth Banks has signed on to direct the ‘final’ installment of the surprising breakout film series. She also has a small role in the franchise and has been a producer on all of them. PP2 brought in a wopping $256 million,  that’s not a bad way to start a directing career. She will be joined by most if not all her old crew, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow are all confirmed to return, as well as original writer Kay Cannon. Pitch Perfect has been very good to Banks who is said to be in very high demand.

• John Woo Is Remaking His Own Film ‘The Killer’

Now I personally fucking love ‘The Killer’. It came out during the height of the Hong Kong action movie craze in the late 80’s, early 90’s. It was refreshing to see action films made in a different way and John Woo was the one who created what seemed like a whole new world of action. The director who currently wrapped up his latest film ‘Manhunt’ said he still wants to make an American remake of ‘The Killer’ and plans on that being his next project, he said: ‘I have never left [Hollywood]. I still enjoy working with Hollywood. I still have a couple of projects developing in Hollywood. So after Manhunt, I probably will go back to Hollywood to make another action thriller. I’m going to make The Killer in an American version.’

• Wes Anderson Wants To Direct A Horror Film

Now this, I wanna see. To say Wes Anderson has his own style is an understatement, he has not only a style of his own but a world of his own, hell, a universe of his own. So when he sat down with IndieWire and expressed his interest in making a horror film my ears perked up. The director said: “I have thought of doing a horror movie…. Horror is an area where if a filmmaker really wants to use all the tricks, the techniques to affect your emotions… With the kind of movies I do, you’re supposed to say is this part supposed to be funny, or is this part supposed to be sad? Well, you say, I don’t know. I’m not sure. This is the way we wanted it. When you make a horror or a thriller, you say you’re supposed to be scared here. You’re supposed to be relieved here. Here we’re explaining something so you know the next part so you’ll be more scared then. I like the idea of the requirements and the obligations of working in a genre like that. I’ve done some scenes like that, but I’d like to do a scary movie.” Hey, Wes if you’re in I’m in, please make that happen.
