It’s a special Trailer Tuesday with ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’. We’l discuss what works, what doesn’t, and why Star Wars continues to thrive with new generations. We also have Denzel Washington, aka ‘Roman J. Israel, Esq.’, the return of an overlooked Spielberg show, Mike Ditka apparently not knowing the meaning of ‘oppression’, the shooting at Texas tech, and more.
I don’t know, to me the only similarities between episodes VIII and V seem to be a battle with walkers and one Jedi training another. I think Korey might have been reaching a little to find similarities. I totally understand going into the film cautiously though. If it does indeed turn out to be too similar then Disney/Lucasfilm really needs to rectify that for episode XI as much as possible. But I am not getting that impression so far. Tonally, it definitely looks similar. It looks very dark. But ‘Star Wars’ is at its best when it’s at its darkest. Anyway, the trailer left out new characters like Benicio Del Toro’s and Laura Dern’s. How they work into the plot may be completely new to the series. I was hoping to see some glimpses of them in the trailer but maybe it’s better going in somewhat blind.
The porgs though, while certainly adorable, are entirely there for marketing and merchandising purposes, let’s not kid ourselves. I hope there is more to them than just being cute side characters. Maybe they’ll have some greater significance to the plot than it would seem from the trailer.
I am very eager to see ‘The Last Jedi.’ It has potential to be the best of the new generation of ‘Star Wars’ films so far. Perhaps combining the fun, likable characters from episode VII with the world building and epic scale of ‘Rogue One.’
Didn’t Joe Namath say he didn’t understand why NFL owners allow players to protest the anthem… So he seems to go with owners dictating all the actions of the contracted players. Might as well go back to teams staying in the locker room before the DOD paid to have players out on the field during the anthem, and buy the league tie in products.
