007 Writer Says Elba Is “Too Street” for Bond – The Daily Double Talk

The Daily Double Talk

Idris-Elba

By Tommy McGrew

Wow…he really went there. New 007 author Anthony Horowitz has a certain opinion about the idea of Idris Elba playing the iconic character of James Bond. Horowitz told Dailymail.co.uk that Elba couldn’t play bond not cause he was black (no, of course not * sarcasm*) but because he is “too street”. Any one with common fucking sense knows that street is a not so subtle way of saying James Bond can’t be black. As someone who personally thought they should keep Bond white and British Ive gotta say I’m all about Idris Elba being bond now! If it means ruining this fake ass Ian Fleming wannabes day then I’m all for it. Now as if the ” too street” commit wasn’t enough Horowitz goes on to dig himself a deeper hole by saying, “I think he is probably a bit too street for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.” Well, I don’t think Mr. Elba is gonna take that to kindly. One thing I give the guy is he’s a smooth suave motherfucker. Look, I’m an Idris Elba fan have been since The Wire (he’ll always be Stringer Bell to me) so this statement rubs me the wrong more for that reason than than the slight insensitivity of his statement. Also, to be fair to Anthony Horowitz in that say statement he did say, “”Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better.” Fair enough although an example would have made that look a little better, I’m not taking this that seriously, the odds of them casting Elba for the role are slim to none. But if he thinks other actors would be good would like to see him vouch for one of those actors if ever their name came up. Horowitz later issued an apology on Twitter:

“I admit it was a poor choice of word. I am mortified to have caused offense.”

Horowitz’s latest Bond novel “Trigger Mortis” is in stores now.
