‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ Plot and Poster Reveal – The Daily Double Talk
By Tommy McGrew
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Disney/Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland back in 2010. One of the main reasons I wasn’t was because I couldn’t stay awake in the damn thing. No matter how hard I tried, which was several times, I could never get through the entire film without falling asleep. So I guess I better get my pillow ready because it was announced yesterday at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California that Alice in Wonderland has got itself a sequel. Alice through the looking glass is Disney’s follow up to Tim Burtons massive hit which crossed the $1 billion mark five years ago. Alice in Wonderland has been one of Disney’s biggest money makers so a sequel was enviable but after seeing the plot the sequel seems to play a little bit like a prequel think back to the future meets Alice in Wonderland. Basically Alice goes back to Underland to find her buddy the mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) going, well, mad or madder And he’s “growing darker”. So it’s up to Alice played by Mia Wasikowska and her newest allie Time itself a half human half clock creature played by Sacha Baron Cohen. In the course of the adventure Alice will go back in time to see how the original characters got together, basically it’s an origin story of sorts as well as a sequel. The film will also star Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Rhys Ifans as Zanik Hightopp (no, he’s not a character from the Hunger Games) the Mad Hatters father.
Tim Burton won’t be directing this though it will be The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted helmer James Bobin. I almost feel obligated to see the sequel since I couldn’t stay awake through the original but Disney’s really going to have to make this one a lot more exciting than the last. Plus the fact that we really don’t know the story like we knew the original story benefits it greatly. Only time will tell how alice’s latest adventure pans out. Alice through the looking glass due out May 16, 2016.
