‘Captain America: Civil War’ Images Show Sides – The Daily Double Talk
By Tommy McGrew
OK, let me tell you right off the bat, if you got super excited about the new Captain America: Civil War images that were released, than you might not like me after this article.
The images show the two opposing sides of the “Civil War” Iron Man’s side features: Iron Man, War Machine, The Vision, and Black Widow.
While Captain Americans side features: Captain America, Ant-Man, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, and The Falcon. Oh wait, I’m sorry, I forgot one Agent 13? Who the fuck is Agent 13 you ask? She’s a SHIELD agent who has been around since 1966 and was created by Jack Kirby. Her real name is Sharon Carter she was originally Peggy Carter’s sister in the comics. I know she’s a legit Marvel character that’s not my beef, my beef is the fact that this is Civil motherfuckin’ War this was huge in the Marvel Comic Universe it was a glorious superhero battle royal with an all star roster on both sides. Even with the all stars the majority were B and C list superheroes but they filled things out nicely, that brings me to my second beef. If you’re not gonna make this thing with grandiose it deserves at least recognize a valuable opening to show case the future phases of your universe. Even if Marvel doesn’t plan on making a Goliath (a B-lister from the comic) movie or show, it would be cool to see that he exists and it broadens your universe greatly. We know SHIELD/Hydra at the time, had files on superheroes they discovered were out there so it’s time for Marvel to show not tell. Looking at the Civil War images it looks like Marvels version of a preseason game. A measly 11 heroes fighting each other, likely without any real peril, just kind of, deflates my enthusiasm. I’ve read the comic 3 times in a row after I first read it because it was surreal to actually see an all out war with heroes versus heroes. If there was ever a time to do something of that scale it’s now. It wasn’t a superb year for Marvel it was good don’t get me wrong but let’s face it Age of Ultron was not the summer ending, instant classic Disney and fans were hoping for. At the end of the day it was just another summer blockbuster, caught up in the one week wonder carousel at the box office. Even though it was second for the 2015 summer box office behind Jurassic World it was a distant second like almost $200 million of a distance. Ant-Man was a moderate success but nothing that dropped the mic on the box office either. Captain America: Civil War will no doubt make money but will it stand out as something special.
