HBO Getting Closer to ‘Deadwood’ Film – The Daily Double Talk
By Tommy McGrew
And here I thought I’d never hear Ian McShane call someone a “cocksucker” again. I’m happy to report I might be wrong about that. HBO is getting ever so close to locking down a Deadwood movie. Which may mean Ian McShane reviving his role as foul-mouthed baddy Al Swearengen as well as Timothy Olyphant’s good guy Seth Bullock in the complex western about a booming but dangerous town set during the gold rush. The show was known for it’s unconventional spin on the gunslinging western, turning into more of a contemporary, slow-burn drama with Shakespearean dialogue and brutal violence peppered in. Deadwood was created by David Milch in 2004 and ran for three seasons from ’04 to ’06 garnering tons of loyal fans which has lead to them rallying for a movie ever since the show ended it’s run.
Actor Garret Dillahunt who played Jack McCall on the show, took to twitter on Wednesday amidst rumors of a film, to try and nudge HBO to give fans “some closure”. It also may help that he reminded the network that they did give Entourage a movie, albeit, I’m sure that movie was a lot cheaper to make than a deadwood movie would be to make. Another hurdle is that Entourage the movie only took about four years to make from the time it ended on HBO and deadwood’s been off the air for almost a decade so it’s actors have aged quite a bit. Which brings me to my next question, Is this going to be a prequel or will this take place after the events of the series ended. If HBO does decide to go forward with this project they will have a lot to think about but I’m definitely pushing for this to be made. Besides HBO gave Sex and the City two movies and it was no excuse for that shit.
