Damn, it looks like the success of Mad Max: Fury Road has every studio not named Warner Bros. looking for their own Mad Max. They are craving a balls to the wall, post-apocalyptic action extravaganza. Just recently I wrote an article about how a Zorro reboot (click here to read) was being developed but with a bit of a catch, that catch being, Zorro wouldn’t be the 19th century masked avenger we all know and love. He was going to a masked avenger in the same futuristic wasteland as Mad Max. Zorro in the future basically, from the way they described it he and Max could be BFFs, why not? Well, it turns out the suits over at Lionsgate wanted to make a splash in the post-apocalyptic pond themselves, but with something a little less ambitious. The studio has decided to make a Borderlands movie based on the popular video game if the same name. Now, technically the game isn’t set after the apocalypse, in fact it takes place on an entirely different planet called Pandora, but it is set in a desert wasteland and playing the game it’s hard for Mad Max to not cross your mind. I think this project will go as far as it’s director takes it. A Borderlands movie will require a visionary director who’s good with non-stop action. I’m interested to see how a Borderlands movie turn out. All the elements are there, now we just need to see how they’re executed. No word yet on who might be directing or starring, but the project will be produced by Ari and Avi Arad. If you’re unfamiliar with the plot if the game, it’s about the planet of Pandora (which I mentioned earlier) a planet that has been abandoned by a huge corporation and is now occupied by ruthless scavengers and nomads.

No release date is set.
