The American ‘Raid’ Remake Has Lost It’s Director And Studio

raid1426

If you’ve never seen Gareth’s Evans’ Indonesian action films The Raid: Redemption or ‘The Raid 2’ then leave this page up, go to Amazon, Apple, or Google buy and download both films, watch them, marvel at their awesomeness and come back to this page…Done? Ok, now that you’ve seen just how fucking amazing those action films are we can proceed. If you’re unfamiliar with the plot heres a quick, simple synopsis:

A S.W.A.T. team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs.

Now, the U.S. more specifically, Hollywood loves to take popular properties from other countries just to make watered down, half-assed American versions of those same properties. In the case of ‘The Raid’ it looked as if things would be no different. Even though Evan’s is serving as a producer on the project and the original films fight choreographer had signed on, the most fans cringed at the thought of an American remake. Well, if you’re one of the people who feel that way then you should be overjoyed at the news that ‘The Raid’ remake is looking like a no-go, at least for the time being. The film has lost both it’s director and one of the studios that was backing the film. ‘Expendables 3’ director Patrick Hughes and Screen Gems, a Sony owned studio, have both jumped off the boat. It doesn’t look like producers are in a hurry to replace the director or the studio. It’s still no word of any replacements, but there is one bright spot in all of this and that is the films lead Frank Grillo (Crossbones from Winter Soldier) is still attached. Grillo seems still seems optimistic about the project and giving the original justice, heres what he said:

“What people don’t know is that I’m a blackbelt in jujitsu, which I’ve been for 20 years, and I’ve been boxing since I’ve been 15 years old – those are things that come natural to me. Believe it or not, I just got hired to do [the remake of] The Raid…I loved [the original]…we’ve got to do this justice. It’s a fanboy favorite.”

Well with an attitude like that, I hope this thing gets made just for Grillos sake.
