The ‘Jem And The Holograms’ Director Is In Serious Denial

You know, I remember the days when a movie would bomb and that movies director would slink off to his or her nearest bar and drink their Sunday and maybe Monday away. But we now live in the time of social media and with social media comes excuses, complaints, and just overall bitching. A couple months back we saw that with Max Landis as he tried to blame Hollywood’s lack of originality for his film ‘American Ultra’ bombing. Only a month prior to Landis’ meltdown came Josh Tranks epic meltdown/Twitter rant coming off the heels of the abysmal ‘Fantasic 4’, his excuse was the studio interfered way too much and cut the films most crucial scenes. Now,  comes Mr. Jon M. Chu director of one of the years ABSOLUTE WORST FILMS, ‘Jem And The Holograms’, which debuted at the appropriate fifteenth spot at the box office. Apparently Jon, who said he and his team had been working on ‘Jem’ for a fucking decade, was surprised by the films criticism and low debut, heres what he said courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter:

“So, this is a bit awkward only because I’m supposed to be here this morning talking about how great it is to be in the movie business — it’s so awesome — but currently, I don’t know if you’ve looked at box office numbers, this morning specifically, it hasn’t been the greatest. So you might get some real shit today…Yes, we only made the movie for five, but it doesn’t get easy when you hear those numbers. I’ll probably get some texts along the way today saying it’s not going anywhere. So this morning isn’t the best kind of day…I get fans sending me hate mail, I get death threats, I get racist remarks — it’s a really fun business.”

Now the racist hate mail I can’t condone, but as someone who had to witness that fucking train wreck of a so-called movie, I say Chu needs this wake up call. You can’t go through life let alone the film industry thinking that shit like ‘Jem and the Holograms’, made for only $5 million, is are actually good films. There has to be a level of self-awareness, especially for something as horrible as ‘Jem’. The film is mind-blowingly bad, things seemed crowbarred in, the dialogue is laughable, the direction and editing isn’t the best, but it’s the films laziness and desperate pandering that makes it as atrocious as it is. It may seem harsh but any director who makes a film like ‘Jem and the Holograms’ and can’t even own up to it’s obvious, glaring shortcomings, honestly doesn’t deserve to EVER make a film again,  to damn bad he directed ‘Now You See Me 2″ god help that fucking movie.
