The Saw Series Will Live On In New Film ‘Saw: Legacy’

WHY, WHY, WHY??!!! Is Lionsgate still doing this shit to us. We were told the abortion of a film franchise that is the Saw series was done. We were told that 2010’s ‘Saw 3D: The Final Chapter’ would be the last hence the whole “final chapter” thing. But unfortunately we were lied to, Lionsgate has announced that they plan on making another installment of the series titled, ‘Saw: Legacy’. The upcoming film already has writers Josh Stolberg and Steve Goldfinger on board to pen the script. They also have the series original director James Wan and original screenwriter Leigh Whannell both set to executive produce. Look, I’m ok with the first ‘Saw’ it was what it was, a simple yet slightly clever, fast-paced horror thriller.  It didn’t work as a whole but it had it’s moments. One thing I can give it is that it wasn’t as convoluted and just plain stupid as some of the later installments. Just to prove my point here are the synopsis’ from the first Saw, Saw 4, and Saw 3d (Saw 7) notice just how little sense these summaries start to make:

Saw – Photographer Adam Stanheight (Leigh Whannell) and oncologist Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) regain consciousness while chained to pipes at either end of a filthy bathroom. As the two men realize they’ve been trapped by a sadistic serial killer nicknamed “Jigsaw” and must complete his perverse puzzle to live, flashbacks relate the fates of his previous victims. Meanwhile, Dr. Gordon’s wife (Monica Potter) and young daughter (Makenzie Vega) are forced to watch his torture via closed-circuit video.

Saw 4 – During the autopsy of serial killer Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), a cassette tape is discovered in his stomach in which he warns that his gory games will continue. Sure enough, SWAT Lt. Daniel Rigg (Lyriq Bent) is forced to follow a blood-drenched trail of torture, dismemberment and death in order to find two missing colleagues. A pair of FBI profilers follow Riggs, suspecting he might be Jigsaw’s accomplice, even as they unlock the puzzle of the killer’s origins, seen in gruesome flashbacks.

Saw 7 – As a fierce battle rages over Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell) terrible legacy, survivors seek support from a fellow survivor and self-help guru, who has a few dark secrets of his own. Meanwhile, crooked cop Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) seeks revenge against Jigsaw’s wife and an author who has his own story.

Take a look at the movies in between those three and you’ll see just how this story completely went off the rails. It’s safe to say that I’m gonna pass on this one.
