Tommy’s Toasted Top 10 T.V. Shows of 2015 – Part 1

Now, initially I didn’t plan on doing another list but after my Toasted Top 5 Albums of 2015 I got a few people requesting another year end list. So I present to you my Toasted Top 10 TV Shows of 2015.

10.  Gotham

Gotham is a show that has it’s fans and it’s haters, needless to say, I’m a fan. In my opinion the show is the best NETWORK superhero show and there aren’t even any superheroes in it. But there are plenty of villains which is the reason I love the show so much. It’s very dark, very violent and lately it’s been going balls to the wall, like a show with nothing to lose. Unlike CBS’ Supergirl or The CW superhero shows like Flash and Arrow, Gotham has an unpredicable edge to it. It’s one of the few shows on network television that genuinely surprises me.

9. Broad City

For the past few years many hipsters and wanna-be hipsters have praised HBO’s ‘Girls’ as a funny, yet real representation of young average (hipster) women in New York. Both critics and audiences jazzed all over that show. After watching it though, I didn’t get it. I didn’t think it was all that funny and the characters were annoying. In comes Broad City which is everything you wish ‘Girls’ was, REALLY funny and really real. Now the latter is debatable the girls on BC get into some pretty farfetched situations but the two leads Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson play their characters as realistic young women in New York which makes the whole thing seem authentic. Bottomline this show is funny as hell and everything in it seems to work.

8. Marvel’s Jessica Jones

I’ve talked about this show numerous times on Double Toasted, but in case you didn’t know how a felt about it I’ll be happy to remind you. Jessica Jones may very well have the best comic villain in the Marvel cinematic universe. David Tennant’s Kilgrave alone is well worth the viewing. But Jessica Jones herself is the cherry on top, a hard drinking, damaged, anti-hero…yes please.

KeyPeele-2

7. Key and Peele

Like many of you, I was devastated when Comedy Central and Dave Chappelle parted ways ending what many, including myself, consider the best sketch comedy show EVER, Chappelle Show. Fast forward years later and we got what I believe is the second best sketch comedy show EVER, Key and Peele. I could talk about this show for hours and anyone who’s seen it knows why. Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael Key picked up where Chappelle left off and went into a direction that know other sketch comedy show has really gone. This show, which just wrapped up it’s final season, will go down as a true comedy classic.

6. Marvel’s Daredevil

Before Jessica Jones graced our Netflix screens there was Matt “Daredevil” Murdock. Daredevil premiered earlier this season and it absolutely blew me away. It was the first time we saw  an adult superhero show. The show was a violent, slow-burn, character driven series. Theres not a lot of shows brave enough to take that route with a superhero property. It’s bold moves work, the show stays with you long after you’re done viewing it.

Check out Part 2 of the list here.
