Bryan Cranston in ‘Trumbo’ Trailer – The Daily Double Talk

TRUMBO-First-Look-Image

By Tommy McGrew

People of the Academy and of the Hollywood foreign press I think Bryan Cranston just made your job a little easier this year. Cranston recently dropped the trailer for his new film Trumbo which has him portraying legendary and controversial screenwriter Dalton Trumbo Who was blacklisted in Hollywood in the height of McCarthyism. Trumbo was accused of being a “communist sympatheizer” and refused to testify against his Hollywood colleagues which resulted in him being thrown into a federal prison and being blacklisted. The film has an all-star cast including: Helen Mirren, Louis C.K., John Goodman, Diane Lane, Elle Fanning, Stephen Root, Elle Fanning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Michael Sthulbarg and The Hobbit’s Dean O’ Gorman as Kirk Douglas (whom he resembles quite a bit). The film will be directed by Jay Roach, yep, that Jay Roach, of Austin Powers and Meet The Parents fame.

Dalton Trumbo has always been someone who’s fascinated me personally not only just as a writer. There’s an excellent documentary by the same name that was released in 2007 which not only delves into the writers clash with congress but also the man himself, how he thought, what he believed and how he looked at the world. His flamboyant, larger-than-life personality could easily be something of parody but just from seeing Bryan Cranston in this trailer I can tell that not only does he bring out the unique personality of Trumbo but also the loneliness, heartbreak and fear, the things he refused to let his enemies see. I got all that shit from a fucking trailer so if I was a betting man I would go all in on Cranston in this role which he looks like he’s having a blast playing. But don’t take my word for it judge for yourself, check the trailer out here:
