Laverne Cox Gets Lead In ‘Rocky Horror’ TV Remake

Oh it’s that time of year people, Halloween is just around the corner which means it’s time to watch our favorite scary, Halloween themed films. One of those films that some can’t go an October 31 without watching is none other than uber cult classic ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ starring the great Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick. The film is so popular, especially around this time, that movie theaters get rented out specifically for ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ parties where people usually dress in like the characters. With such a cult classic on their hands you knew it was only a matter of time before 20th Century Fox’s double dipping ass decided to remake it. That day is here but not in the way you think. They are going the NBC route and making a two-hour musical on Fox. The network wasted no time casting the coveted lead role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the role made famous by the great Tim Curry. This time around the role will be planned by ‘Orange Is The New Black’s” Laverne Cox, who if you don’t know is transgender. We’re in a time period where the equality of transgender people is something many are fighting for. The thing is Rocky Horror was make in 1975 were most weren’t even trying to be PC when it came the transgender community. So I’m glad to see an actual transgender woman play a role that very much should be played by someone who is actually transgender. This is the synopsis for Fox’s musical remake:
“Sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors, who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous flirtatious alien mad-scientist, is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of ‘Rocky Horror’ — a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank’s desires.”
If you wanna catch the remake you have to tune in to FOX next year around this time.
