Sam Raimi Wants To Redeem Himself For ‘Spider-Man 3’
Oh Sam Raimi, I don’t think there’s a filmmaker out there who’s films I’m more mixed about but that I still highly respect. ‘Spider-Man 3’ was a cluster fuck of monumental proportion and I should have totally sworn off his films after that, but I didm’t, I couldn’t. Raimi is a guy who, when on, is one of the best directors in the game, ‘Evil Dead’, ‘Spider-Man 2’, ‘A Simple Plan’, ‘Darkman’, the list goes on. The man has a style of his own and for the most part that style works a great deal…sometimes, other times you get the aforementioned ‘Spider-Man 3’. The movie is hands down (at least in my opinion) one of the worst superhero movies ever made, I know that list has some real turds on it but SM3 barely makes that list. Be it the forced inclusion of Venom, casting Topher Grace as Venom, having evil Peter Parker dance instead of actually doing anything evil, amongst many other things. The movie was a mess and the Raimi knew it was from the get-go. The studio basically made him include Venom which meant he had to rewrite the script to fit him in, which means Raimi’s original vision was ruined and at point he didn’t give a shit. Unfortunately, his lack of shit giving showed on screen and the film was branded a virtual disaster by some fans while others (*cough, cough* Martin Thomas) gave the film a pass, for what reason I don’t know. But Raimi, who sat down with The Week, has himself come out and said the film was bad and that he did, in fact, mess up:
“I messed up on the third one. I think they’re so complete now, Marvel. They probably don’t need me anymore. But if they needed me? I’d love to. It’s great to be wanted.”
Give the man a chance Marvel, he deserves a chance to redeem himself for ‘Spider-Man 3’, hell at least if he’s involved we can have a director that we’ve actually heard of instead of the one you have now, who’s name I, of course, can’t remember. #GiveRaimiAChance
