Another Cinema Shooting in Nashville Theater – The Daily Double Talk
Americans are starting to become really leery about safety in movie theaters and rightfully so. We have yet another incident of a lone wolf shooting in a movie theater. Police in Nashville were called to The Carmike 8 Cinemas in Anitoch in response to reports of a man with a gun and a hatchet. Public information Officer Don Aaron said that the man opened fire on a police officer which then in turn made the police officer, as well as SWAT, engage the man in a fire fight which ended with the gunman being pronounced dead. The man also left two backpacks in the theater and the bomb squad was called but it did not seem to be any type of explosive devices inside. This latest incident comes just two weeks after another movie theater shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana by 59-year-old gunman John Russell Houser which resulted in nine injuries and three deaths including Houser himself. There’s no doubt that movie theaters are going to have to really kick it up their safety protocols. Public safety is very important to Americans. We haven’t felt this kind of unease since after 9/11 when people were nervous about flying. Sadly, I’m starting to feel that way about movie theaters. No doubt at this rate security will be a major part of the movie going experience in the future. But whatever needs to be done to assure the public safety, needs to be done. We must feel at ease when we sit down to watch a gut-busting comedy or heart-pounding blockbuster that’s the whole point of going to the movies. Unfortunately, dumb-ass people such as John Russell Houser and the latest domestic terrorist in Nashville, are trying to make the comforts of going to movies a thing of the past. [Source: Yahoo]
