Charlie Sheen Reveals He’s HIV Positive
If you’re a regular reader of tabloids, be it, at the supermarket or online gossip sites (which I’m really not) then there was a headline that stood out more than any other headline and that headline read: “Hollywood A-Lister Is HIV postive, But Refuses To Come Clean” Now that headline stopped me in my tracks, so I explored a little more. The article described a major Hollywood star who had a reputation as one of the biggest womanizers in town had contracted HIV years ago and was putting woman at risk. That isn’t your typical tabloid story, but I figured it’s gossip so I didn’t think twice about it, until I saw a similar headline a few days later on the LA Times website. It was then I knew, this story was actually legit, then came the mystery of who this star was, people we’re struggling to figure it out. On Monday though, the mystery was solved, actor Charlie Sheen, 50, was trust into the spotlight once again this time as the mystery celeb who had contracted HIV. Sheen decided to come clean for himself and his family on the Today Show with Matt Lauer. Sheen went on to say:
“I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV-positive, I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others, which couldn’t be further from the truth…I’ve told enough that I trusted to be in the position and the situation that I’m in today.”
Sheen said he was diagnosed “roughly four years ago.” He said he felt something wasn’t right with his health,
“Based on this series of cluster headaches and insane migraines and sweating the bed, completely drenched two, three nights in a row, that I was emergency hospitalized. I thought I had a brain tumor. I thought it was over. After a battery of tests and spinal taps, all that crap, they walked in the room and said, ‘Boom. Here’s what’s going on.’ It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life.”
Sheen admitted that he was basically being blackmailed by so-called “friends”, in which he had to pay millions to in order for them not to tell anyone about his condition.
“I have paid those people—not that many, but enough to where it has depleted the future…What people forget is that’s money they’re taking from my children. You know? They think it’s just me. But I’ve got five kids and a granddaughter, you know?…For some reason I trusted them. They were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason.”
No doubt Charlie’s life will no longer be the same now that he’s come public with his diagnosis. Regardless of why he went public, the fact remains, he did and that has to take a hell of a lot of guts. Sheen said that he did not purposely put any woman at risk and any unprotected sex he’s had was with women who knew his status. Ex-wife Denise Richards and their children have been tested and are negative.
