‘Chef’ Is Set For A Bollywood Remake

You know there’s a corner of the entertainment industry that we rarely if ever talk about here on Double Toasted and that’s because, well, we don’t know shit about it and no that industry isn’t porn. The corner I speak of is that of Bollywood, India’s major film industry. They produce just as many films as we do a year and have actually gained a cult American fan base. I bring up Bollywood because recently Abundantia Entertainment, Eros International and Alumbra Entertainment decided to co-produce a ‘Chef’ remake. ‘Chef’ was written and directed by ‘Iron Man’ director Jon Favereau and as someone who has seen the film multiple times I can tell you it’s truly something special (I consider it an all time fav). If you’re not familiar with ‘Chef’ heres a description:

Miami-born Carl Casper is the head chef of Gauloise in Brentwood, California. While popular with his kitchen staff and hostess Molly, the restaurant owner Riva wants Carl to stick to tired “classics” rather than innovative dishes. Carl has a strained relationship with his tech-savvy preteen son Percy and rich ex-wife Inez.

The film went on to gross $46 million dollars and gained praise by both critics and audiences alike. It’s a story that truly could be told in any country, during almost anytime period, the story is that universal. The Hindi version of ‘Chef’ will adapted for the Indian audiences with what I’m sure will look like the tastiest fucking Indian food you’ve ever seen while retaining the senesiblities of the original. “I’m excited to see how this personal film translates to the Indian culture. The themes of food, music and family should resonate well,” said Favreau. Head of Abundantia Entertainment Vikram Malhotra also went on to say:

“Ever since I first saw “Chef” I knew that this film had to be made in India. Charming relationships, a feel-good story and a unique journey of self-discovery make ‘Chef’ the ideal film to bring alive in an Indian context. Add to that the blazing spirit of entrepreneurship and the rapidly evolving food scene in India and the context for a Hindi remake is brilliantly set.”

No word when the film is set for release.
