Danny Boyle Set To Direct ‘Trainspotting 2’ FUCK YES!

Now it’s no way I could write a story about this without giving away a little tidbit about myself. That tidbit is I absolutely fucking love Trainspotting, it is in my top five all-time favorite movies, I’ve probably seen it about 30 or 40 times in my life, so far. OK, now with that said let’s get to it. Director Danny Boyle has announced that is the next film will be a sequel to Trainspotting that’s right Trainspotting 2 is coming. And I must say I have never been more fascinated, scared yet excited as I am about this movie getting made. If you’re unfamiliar with Trainspotting heres the synopsis courtesy of Fandango:
“Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), a young man with few prospects and fewer ambitions, lives in economically depressed Edinburgh. Like most of his friends, Renton is a heroin addict who loves the drug’s blissful nothingness; financing his habit also provides excitement and challenges that his life otherwise lacks. Renton’s two best friends are also junkies: Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), a snappy dresser obsessed with James Bond, and Spud (Ewan Bremner), a guileless nerd who suggests Pee Wee Herman’s debauched cousin. Renton and his pals also hang out with Begbie (Robert Carlyle), a borderline psychotic who loathes junkies even though he drinks like a fish. After one too many brushes with the law, Renton kicks heroin and moves to London, where he finds a job, a flat, and something close to peace of mind. However, Sick Boy, Begbie, and Spud all arrive at his doorstep on the trail of a big score, leading Renton back into drugs and crime.”
The movie is something special in that, it really has no genre because it’s almost a near perfect blend of many. When it starts it almost feels like a teen comedy, then at one point it turns into a mature dark comedy. It turns into a dark and bleak drama in the heroine filled vein of Requiem for a Dream, then (my favorite part) shit turns into a straight up horror movie. It sounds a bit overwhelming when I describe it that way but it’s very fluid when you watch it play out on the screen. Besides let’s face it that’s Danny Boyle’s gift, switching from one genre to another within the same film seamlessly. My only concern is I have no idea what in the world he could do for the sequel to this movie. It’s not one of those films that screams “needs a sequel”. In general it’s not even the type of film that would get a sequel but that kind of adds to its appeal. Danny Boyle has never seemed like the type of director to go into a project half cocked, so I’m sure that he is had an idea for this for sometime now. Trainspotting which came out in 1996 was very much a movie about youth and how easily your younger adult years can go way off the rails. Although the majority of the cast are now comfortably in their 40s, Boyle has confirmed that four of the original stars, Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewen Bremner will be returning. The sequel will be based on Irvine Welch’s follow up novel to his book Trainspotting called Porno. The script, written by John Hodge is done and is being praised by Boyle as being “terrific”. The director is hoping to get the film out sometime in 2016 in time for Trainspotting’s 20th anniversary.
