‘Fast and Furious’ Spin-Offs And Prequels Are Coming!

Tired of ‘The Fast and The Furious’ franchise? Well, too damn bad because you’re about to get more than you can handle. Universal Pictures announced that they are planning a series of spin-offs. We’ve already had seven movies in this series and although we unfortunately lost one of the films stars in Paul Walker (R.I.P.) the franchise has decided to continue the series. The last film was a box office juggernaut, mainly due to the loss of Walker and the fact that ‘Furious 7’ was his last in the stable of films. There was a fear that Vin Diesel and crew would call it quits after the seventh installment because of Walker’s death but it seems that they will continue the series in his honor. Now though, it seems they’re kicking it up a notch, instead of simply making sequels every other summer they plan on producing movies that tell side stories of popular characters, or that explore their earlier days. My theory is they want to do what ‘Star Wars’ is doing which is, a FF movie comes out every other summer, right? So these prequels and spin-offs can be released on years no FF movies are released. Personally I think it’s a little bold but people do love these films, I never thought ‘The Fast and Furious’ would ever be the money making monster it is now. Diesel seems excited about the potential these spin-offs and prequels could have on the franchise:

“We’ve written out story lines for various characters. We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”

Class? I don’t know if that’s the word I’d use to describe ‘The Fast and The Furious’ series, but maybe those films will play more like a Terrence Malik film this time around.
