Fuck Bond! Idris Elba Might Be A Gunslinger

Idris-Elba-Dark-Tower-645x370

After all this controversy regarding Idris Elba playing iconic British spy James Bond (which he’d be perfect for by the way) it’s no surprise the man wants to move past all that. So what better way than to take a role that has a little less attention thrust upon it and that role is that of Roland Deschain, the gunslinger from Stephen King’s epic dark fantasy series ‘The Dark Tower.’ It seems that Sony is looking interested in Elba for the role, which makes me a little skeptical. Not Elba in the role but rather Sony acting so interested in him, remember this is the same studio that had an email saying “Denzel or bust” basically saying no black actor makes money not even Denzel. Maybe they were scrutinized enough into realizing that’s the dumbest fucking thing anyone’s every heard. Or maybe it was the great year that movies with diverse casts have had, either or they looked very foolish with that statement. Either way I’m rooting for Idris, if he gets the role, no doubt he’ll make the most of it. If you’re unfamiliar with ‘The Dark Tower’ heres a synopsis of the books:

The book tells the story of The Gunslinger, Roland of Gilead, and his quest to catch the man in black, the first of many steps towards Roland’s ultimate destination: The Dark Tower. The main story takes place in a world that is somewhat similar to the Old West but exists in an alternate timeframe or parallel universe. Roland exists in a place where “the world has moved on”. This world has a few things in common with our own, however, including memories of the song “Hey Jude” and the child’s rhyme that begins “Beans, Beans, the Musical Fruit”. Vestiges of forgotten or skewed versions of real-world technology also appear, such as a reference to a gas pump that is worshipped as a god named “Amoco”, and an abandoned way station with a water pump powered by an “atomic slug”.
