Legendary Director Brian De Palma Is Making A New Film

brian-de-palma

It’s been a long, long time since we’ve seen legendary film director Brian De Palma has made a film…I mean, an actual, quality film. His last movie was 2012’s Passion starting Rachael McAdams and Noomi Rapace, the film was mediocre at best and basically came and went totally under the radar. Before that he had made ‘Redacted’ and ‘Black Dahlia’ basically De Palma fell off…way off. The man’s filmography from 1998 to 2012 has been pretty damn bad to be kind, the films made during that time were: ‘Mission to Mars’, ‘Snake Eyes’, ‘Femme Fatale’, and the three films I mentioned before. Now, if you’re unfamiliar with De Palma, at this point in the article, you’re probably wondering why I called him legendary, that’s because before all those missteps he brought us some true classic films such as, ‘Scarface’, ‘Mission: Impossible’, ‘Carlito’s Way’, ‘The Untouchables’ and ‘Carrie’. With a list of films like that for him to go from making a film like ‘The Untouchables’ to something like ‘Passion’ it’s a bit of dive in quality so maybe his newest project “Lights Out” gives him a second wind. The film tells the story of a blind Chinese girl unknowingly caught in a plot to expose a top-secret assassination program. Destined to become a feminist icon for the ages, Lin Shen raises unsettling questions about government secrecy and what can and can’t be seen – while keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.

The movie will be produced in China by Huace Media Group, one of China’s top publicly traded Film/TV financing and production companies and they seemed to be pretty stoked about working with De Palma:

“We’re excited and honored to be working with one of the great living film directors, Brian De Palma, on ‘Lights Out…De Palma is a proven master of suspense; in the hands of the legendary director, ‘Lights Out’ promises to be a thriller for the ages, full of empowering messages, harrowing plot turns and great action sequences.”
