Live Action Naruto Movie is Coming! – The Daily Double Talk

Ah, Naruto or as I like to call him, the little ninja that could. It turns out Naruto Uzumaki will be get his chance to grace the big screen in a live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series by Masashi Kishimoto. The film is moving forward over at Lionsgate with director Michael Gracey set to helm the project and producer Avi Arad (yep Avi Mr. Spider-Man Arad) looking over the production.
If you’re not familiar with Naruto, it was not only a wildly successful manga series that had an incredible fifteen year run, but it also spawned an equally successful anime series of the same name, an animated movie (Boruto: The Naruto Movie), and a sequel anime series called Naruto: Shippuden. The manga and the original anime focuses on the story of Naruto and his journey to becoming the one true leader or “Hokage” of the hidden leaf village.
Personally, Naruto was a little after my time, although I know plenty of people my own age who go ape shit over the anime, I never quite got it. For about five years I thought was Hello Kitty’s angry, rebellious, older, teenage brother. However as the years have gone by I’ve found a certain charm in the series myself thanks to the Gamecube classic Naruto: Clash of Ninjas (a personal favorite of mine). I’m actually interested to see how it all translates to the silver screen, just keep your fingers crossed that we don’t get another The Last Airbender, yikes! We are clearly long overdue for a legitmate anime adaptation and if there was any series with the potential to do it right it’s this one. With a series that many put right up there with Dragonball Z and Avatar: The Last Airbender/ Legends of Korra, the fans expectations for this are sure to be high. No word yet on when production is set to begin.
