‘Memento’ Gets A Remake

memento-still

For fuck sake guys! Look I know Hollywood runs out of ideas…I know this, but for the love of God can you guys please hire like I think tank or something. They’re plenty of young, fresh writers who actually have original ideas, seek them out. If I have to read one more report about some exec taking an old movies or TV shows and remaking them, I’m gonna fucking scream…so give a moment to do so. AAHHHHH! Ok better, this time around AMBI Pictures, run by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi, has announced it will finance and produce the remake. The company has the rights to remake about 400 films if they so choose. Those films include: ‘Sliding Doors’, ‘Sling Blade’, and ‘Donnie Darko’. But this time around they’ll remake a personal favorite of mine, ‘Memento’. If you’re unfamiliar with the film it was “Dark Knight’ director Christopher Nolan’s breakout film from 2000, the film starred Guy Pearce as a man who is tracking down his wife’s killer but suffers from a unique from of memory loss. The movie tells part of it’s story in reverse order while another storyline was chronological. The two met at the end. To be fair ‘Memento’ was a small movie when it was released, it was more of a home video surprise. One of those films that looks kind of cool so you give it a shot and end up loving it. If you’re worried that the same effect won’t be had in the remake, rest easy, AMBI’s Monika Bacardi says:

“Memento is a masterpiece that leaves audiences guessing not just throughout the film, but long after as well, which is a testament to its daring approach. We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan’s vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original. It’s a big responsibility to deliver something that lives up to the mastery of the original, but we are extremely excited and motivated to bring this puzzle back to life and back into the minds of moviegoers.”
