Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Alien 5’ Has A Set Back

Full disclosure here, if this was about a year and a half ago this news might’ve ruined my day a little bit, but this is not a year and half ago, this is now. So the news that Neil Blomkamp has hit a road block with his ‘Alien 5’ project, didn’t really bother me all that much. According to multiple sources Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ follow-up titled Alien: Paradise Lost (a title more fitting for a video game) is 20th Century Fox’s top priority. I mean, I do feel bad for Blomkamp, personally as a guy who would give his left nut to make an ‘Aliens’ movie I understand his frustrations. A project like ‘Alien 5’ is a dream for any young, sci-fi director out there, that and ‘Star Wars’ are like the holy grail of film projects. So I’m sure when Ridley Scott took notice of Blomkamp’s awesome concept art and eventually hired him to make the fifth installment of the ‘Aliens’ series, I’m sure he thought it’d go smoother than this. Apparently Ridley Scott couldn’t let that happen, he’s been pretty hellbent on making ‘Alien: Paradise Lost’ and after the success of ‘The Martian’ he’s got the keys to city, that city being all of Hollywood. So if he wants ‘Prometheus 2’ before ‘Alien 5’ than by god that’s whats gonna happen. Blomkamp doesn’t have nearly the pull as Scott, his last two films Elysium and Chappie didn’t exactly set the world on fire, they were critically panned for the most part. Although they did exceed there respective budgets.Blomkamp to Twitter to inform his fans of the hold up:
“Alien is kinda holding/ pending prometheus 2. So I shall be working on other things… as much as I love the xeno- and Lt Ripley.”
Well, maybe one of these days we’ll get to see ‘Alien 5’ until then you’ll have Alien: Paradise Lost to hold you over it opens May 30, 2017.
