YIPPEE KI-YAY MOTHER–You know what, I’m not gonna do it. I refuse and the reason for that is simple. I can’t in good conscious say that famous movie catchphrase because the franchise from which it comes has done nothing lately to deserve me quoting it. That’s right Die Hard, which now takes on double meaning because this fucking franchise refuses to die, is gearing up for it’s sixth installment. This time around though things are going to be slightly different. The film will be a prequel or wait for it…a pre-boot, please contain your laughter. Apparently the think tank over at 20th Century Fox Pictures thought it’d be a good idea to show rookie cop John McClane on his first wild, life threatening, action filled adventure. The movie that is going with the title, Die Hard: Year One, will feature a young, spunky McClane and will be set in 1979 New York City. If you know anything about the New York City in the late 70’s early 80’s than you know it was something akin to a crime ridden shit hole. So there should be no shortage of people for John to shoot.
Now if you think that this will be the first Willis-less Die Hard, than think again. The film will have Willis show up as older McClane at the beginning and the end of the film, working as a bookend. I gotta admit I, like many of you I’m sure, am skeptical, especially after that last movie (A Good Day To Die Hard). But maybe, just maybe, the studio realized it was destroying one of it’s most popular series and will learn from their mistakes. This is a different spin on Die Hard, that has all the potential to work. Let’s just hope they don’t fuck it up and give us A Good Day To Die Harder.
The film has no release date yet.
