New Trailer for ‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’

Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesThe first thing I thought off when the shit started to hit the fan in the new trailer for Liongate’s horror comedy ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ was “Wow, here goes that ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ sequel no one wanted” and it really is hard not to come to that conclusion. The trailer starts off looking like a Joe Wright-esque period piece with zero indication of the bat-shit crazy premise the movie actually has. After a while though, just as you get bored with all the properness and curtsies, you get a just what the title promises. Once we see a female zombie creep up on one of our heroic female leads, IT’S ON! Unfortunately all that means is hot chicks in period garb, walking in slow-mo slicing and slashing the shit out of zombies. Now I know that sounds extremely bad ass, but I’m not sold. It looks like a film that is trying way too hard to be campy as well as tongue and cheek. This might actually end up being what ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ tried to be but failed miserably to be. If you’re unfamiliar with the film it is an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel the same guy who wrote…you guessed it ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’. So the fact that this film has that tone makes sense now right? Here’s the synopsis for the book from Amazon:
“It is known as “the strange plague,” and its unfortunate victims are referred to only as “unmentionables” or “dreadfuls.” All over England, the dead are rising again, and now even the daughters of Britain’s best families must devote their lives to mastering the deadly arts. Elizabeth Bennet is a fearsome warrior whose ability with a sword is matched only by her quick wit and even sharper tongue. But she faces her most formidable foe yet in the haughty, conceited, and somehow strangely attractive Mr. Darcy. As the two lovers meet in the ballroom and on the battlefield, they’ll soon learn that nothing—not even bands of ninjas, hordes of flesh-eating zombies, or disapproving aunts—can stop true love.”
Check out the trailer for yourself. The film opens February 5th, 2016.
