Sony Is Making A Live-Action/CGI ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Movie

Sonic-the-Hedgehog-character-001

Oh, this one is for all you millennials out there. It looks like Hollywood won’t stop invading your childhood anytime soon. Sony Pictures have announced they plan on making a live action/CGI Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Now I know the track record for video game movies isn’t the best and when I say isn’t the best I mean fucking awful. But this time around I gotta say maybe this one will work and the reason I say that is because of one video game movie, ‘Wreck It Ralph’. That movie gave us all a sliver of hope that maybe just maybe you could make a movie based on video games actually good. The reason I think that film worked so well was because it was an animated kids film. Although I found that film had a level of creativity unlike typical video game movies it’s lighthearted family friendly tone made it a lot easier to digest. Maybe that will be the case with Sonic The Hedgehog, who was featured in ‘Wreck It Ralph’. Growing up I remember all those Sonic The Hedgehog cartoons throughout the years like: Sonic The Hedgehog, The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, and Japan had it’s own anime series called Sonic X.  So needless to say I was a huge Sonic fan and have been waiting for someone to do something with the property. Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. President and CEO Hajime Satomi sat down with Worldfolio for an interview, he said:

“Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie scheduled for release in 2018. Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.”

Can’t wait to see how this turns out.
