The Internet Is Freaking Out Over The Hair Color Of ‘The Little Mermaid’

It appears that if Disney isn’t behind your live-action princess remake then it’s probably destined for some hardships. It was recently announced that ‘Kick-Ass’ star Chloe Grace Moretz would be playing iconic character Ariel AKA the little mermaid.  It took everyone a while to realize that this live-action remake would not be a Disney affair. Once that information was out, some had a little cause for pause but most figured “hey, it’s all good as long as she has red hair.” Well, I’ve got some bad news for those people because last week Moretz came out and said that her Ariel would, indeed, not be a redhead but instead a blonde. This set the internet on fire. Long time fans of the Disney classic were far from happy about the statement regarding Ariel’s hair. Many took to Twitter to vent their frustrations:

“I feel personally victimized that the live action remake of the little mermaid is going to feature a BLONDE Ariel?!” – Lauren Goodwin @mrslagoodwin

“So they’re changing Ariel’s hair to blonde for the upcoming Little Mermaid movie……
guess what movie I’m not going to watch” – tonirose @Tonirose_S

These things just kept coming, it seems like more people expressed their concerns than anyone would have thought. Some of the comments weren’t so bad one person even brought up a point.

“why are ppl so salty wasn’t the little mermaid blonde in the original story before the disney version” – brielle @kingsliegh

Now I don’t know if that’s true but if it is some of these people should feel embarrassed. I think people forget ‘The Little Mermaid’ is based on a Hans Christian Andersen book published in 1837 and that the 1989 animated film completely misses the point of the original story. Apparently this live-action remake will be a lot more true to Andersen’s original story.
