The Possible Future of ‘True Detective’ – The Daily Double Talk

523617616_1280x720

So I’ve been getting a lot of request about my opinion on season two of HBO’s true detective. And after reading an article on CinemaBlend about the possible future of the show I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone. First things first, let’s just get this out-of-the-way now, season two of true detective might’ve been the closest thing to the television equivalent of the fantastic four not to Jessica alba fantastic four I’m talking about that Josh Trank shit. I was very loyal to the true detective Maine not so much the show itself, really it was just the name and the thought of those early episodes of the first season. I watched the show from episode one and episode seven and eventually eight. After the final scene of episode seven I knew I had really truly witnessed bullshit. I may be a stoner but I’m damn sure not an idiot I fancy myself at the very least a semi-intellectual and at times I had a hard time following what the fuck was going on. The plot just seemed unnecessarily complicated, even the dialogue was complicated and laughable at times. Another huge problem I had was Taylor Kitsch’s character that was really just a throw away that had nothing to do and served absolutely no purpose other than something that seem like a data plot line from a 1990s made-for-TV movie. Although I do like Taylor kitsch as an actor even after he gave his all the moves the script set him up for failure. Some of the things I actually likes about season two was the look a lot of people complain that it was too gloomy and dark but I actually like that I like that the streetlights or neons did most of the lighting for some of the night scenes and the dry creek California sun lit the day scenes personally I thought it was shot beautifully. Another plus were the other three main actors Rachel McAdams Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell. Farrell like Kitsch put his all into the character, who was a near parody of a hard-boiled detective, all the way down to a fucking porn mustache and an alcohol problem. Even though it gets pretty silly sometimes with his character you do respect his effort. Same could be said for Rachel McAdams’ character who’s backstory is a bit melodramatic and also overly complicated, but you can tell she’s trying really hard and does actually pull something somewhat respectable out of something that could’ve been pretty exploitive. But by far my favorite was Vince Vaughn because when the show first started I didn’t buy his term as a gangster at all but through the course of the show you can see the change in his face his expressions, his mannerisms become more convincing as the show goes along.

***********************************************SPOILER ALERT******************************************

Now for a bit of a spoiler, my feelings on a few key episodes. As far as the season finale go fill it was kind of a copout basically the opposite of season one where season one the to conveniently and happily this season just said fuck it let’s kill everybody in the basically did in some pretty idiotic ways a lot of the characters had some poor decision-making that didn’t feel at all realistic. At the end of the day though it doesn’t matter it seems that the head of HBO, Michael Lombardo is still in love with true detective and still in love with its showrunner Nic Pizzolatto so it looks like we might be seeing more of the same in season three or maybe someone knew could come in or maybe Cary Fukunaga would make the triumphant return either or I’m still not giving up on true detective just yet.
