Tommy’s Toasted Top 10 T.V. Shows of 2015 – Part 2

You’ve seen the first 5 T.V. shows that tickled my fancy last year, so let us continue shall we…
5. Narcos
Narcos was a show that totally took me by surprise. It’s another Netflix show that wasn’t really promoted all that much, at least, not to the degree of shows like, ‘House of Cards’, ‘Orange Is The New Black’, and even the lackluster ‘Marco Polo’. I watched one episode of ‘Narcos’ and I was hooked. The show which tells the story of infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar was addictive, even though you could Google the entire story watching it unfold is truly a fun, exhilarating experience.
4. Game of Thrones – Season 5
Lets just get it out of the way now. I am a Game of Thrones FANATIC. I am a total nerd for any and everything Westeros related. I even own book telling the history of Westeros and all the Houses, so it’s no surprise that GOT made this list. What may surprise you is that it’s not at number one. The reason for that is season 5 wasn’t the strongest of the series but still good, just not great. The bar for this show as been set very, very high so anything below excellent is kind of a disappointment.
3. Mr. Robot
If you would have told me in 2014 that I would completely obsessed and enamored with a show on the USA network I would have laughed in your face and told you to go fuck yourself. Yet here we are in 2016 and after Mr. Robot’s first season I must admit I was totally obsessed and enamored with a show on USA. It was tough to but Mr. Robot in the number 3 spot seeing how it was my number 1 show for the majority of last year (but two other shows stole it’s thunder). Mr. Robot almost seemed tailor made for fans of Fight Club, it was creative, unique and like nothing USA has ever been a part of. The show’s ratings where some of the best the network had which makes me hopeful for future shows like Mr. Robot. We definitely need more shows like it.
2. Broadchurch – Season 2
Ok, now some of you are sitting there like “Whaaa?” And I’m glad you have that reaction, because if you do that means you’ve never seen this show, hell, you might’ve never even heard of this show and that is a shame. Now for those of you who are familiar with the British crime drama then the fact that it’s a number 2 should come as no surprise. But for everyone else let me explain, the first season of Broadchurch, which is a must see, is a straight up who-done-it. The thing that makes this series different from other who-done-it’s is the simple fact that the pay off is a TRUE pay-off, it’s shocking, it takes you aback and it makes wanna know where the story will go from there, in comes season 2 which pretty much shifts from who-done-it to a solid thriller. The characters are rich and interesting, the writing is about as top-notch as you can get and the direction is solid and the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. It’s hard to compare Broadchurch to another show but it’s far easier to compare it to an Oscar caliber film. Don’t let the British thing fool you this show is far from boring, it hooks you immedialtly and the pacing is amazing. Oh and the cherry on top, this is probably the best performance David Tennant has ever done…yes better than Dr. Who and Kilgrave, you’ve never seen the guy like this before and it is nothing short of phenomenal. You can see both seasons on Netflix now!
So what show could possibly top that….
1. Fargo – Season 2
Of course, it’s Fargo. Hands down my favorite show this year. This season of Fargo was so good it almost transcends the world established in the first season. Although it does tie into the first season it was truly it’s own thing. Fargo’s bread and butter has always been simple, small town folk interacting with the dark, sadistic side of society and this season doesn’t disappoint from that standpoint. But what truly made Fargo season 2 so special for me was the fact that the entire season was an homage to The Coen brothers and their movies. The show was literally a mixture of almost every Coen brothers movie every made. Any fans of the Coens could tell the show took heavily from ‘No Country For Old Men’ and ‘Miller’s Crossing’ but even less known films like ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’ (remember that whole UFO thing? That’s where it came from). I haven’t seen something this clever on television in a really long time and may not ever see something this special in a long time, but hopefully it opened doors so we can.
