Warner Bros. Revamping ‘Dennis The Menace’…Again
DENNNNISSSSS!!!! I can’t lie I kind of miss that. A lot of people don’t know that my hero as a child was no other than Dennis Mitchell, but you might know him as Dennis The Menace. My goal from age 4 to 10 was to annoy my old curmudgeonly neighbor Mr. Doogie (Yes, his last name actually was Doogie, I shit you not) just like Dennis did to his old, grumpy ass neighbor Mr. Wilson. Unfortuantely, Mr. Doogie didn’t find me so cute and charming, it was far more of a hate relationship than a love/hate relationship. But this article isn’t about me and my arch nemesis Mr. Doogie, it’s about Warner Bros. and the guy who brought us ‘Flicka’, ‘Marley and Me’ and ‘The Blind Side’ (Gil Netter) bringing back the menace to fuck with a whole new generation of old people. If you’re not familiar with ‘Dennis the Menace’, he was created by Hank Ketcham and made his debut as a syndicated newspaper strip on March 12, 1951. A television sitcom came along eight years later in 1959, it starred actor Jay North as the ever annoying Dennis and played like any family oriented sitcom back then. But lets just get to the nitty gritty, we all know how you know ‘Dennis The Menace’, I’m talking to you millenials…that’s right the cartoon by DIC that ran from 1986 to 1992. It was hands down the closet thing to the comic strip and I know I’m bias but fuck it, in my opinion it’s one of the greatest afternoon cartoons ever and fun fact, SNL legend Phil Hartman was the voice of Dennis’ dad. Hopefully Warner Bros. does Dennis justice, if you recall the studio did a live action version of ‘Dennis The Menace’ back in 1993 starring the late, great Walter Matthau. Unfortunately that version, although not bad, didn’t quite capture what DTM was all about. Hopefully this new incarnation will do that.
